Designing the departments for the iPad was a little different this week since we decided to use some secondaries instead of the anchors for the departments. For the most part I like how the pages turned out. They are nothing special, but the pop ups make them dynamic. The books page seems a little boring to me, but since the books were sorted by type of reader, I did not want that element to be lost because it gave character to the story.

You Can’t Miss: Creative Bloq top 20 magazine covers 2013

The covers that made the list are all extremely different, what they all have in common is that they make you think. Hardly any are the standard layout of a cover that most of us have grow to expect. All of these, whether it is the absence of cover blurbs, or their different placing have something different that draw your eye to them. I think it’s interesting since we so often talk about how important cover blurbs are. Are they really making people pick something up off the newsstand or are people more likely to pick up a magazine that has a cover that stands out from all the rest? I don’t know, but I have to say I much prefer these over the typical.

My cousin text me this week reminding me that exactly a year ago I was visiting her in Fountainebleau, France. She was living in this chateau about an hour outside Paris. It was truly one of the most beautiful setting I have ever seen. Although it rains a lot in France, I loved the contrast between the gray skies and lush grass and bright flowers. She lives quite the life if you can’t tell from her living arrangements last year.
